Previamente a mi incorporaci\u00f3n en el laboratorio, \u00e9ste hab\u00eda identificado un plegamiento caracter\u00edstico y novedoso com\u00fan a los enzimas carbamato quinasa (marina, a. Et al., 1999; ram\u00f3n-maiques, s. Et al., 2000) y acetilglutamato quinasa (ram\u00f3n-maiques, s. Et al., 2002). Ambos enzimas, pertenecen al grupo de la enzyme commission ec 2.7.2, transferidores de un fosforilo a un grupo carboxilato, y por tanto, con la misi\u00f3n espec\u00edfica de sintetizar anh\u00eddridos mixtos carboxflico-fosf\u00e1rico, en rutas de bios\u00edntesis de amino\u00e1cidos. Carbamato quinasa y acetilglutamato quinasa, pertenecen a la familia estructural aminoacido quinasa (base de datos pfam, familia pfo0696; http.\/\/Www.Sanger.Ac.Uk\/software\/pfam), familia que por similitud de secuencia de amino\u00e1cidos, incluye adem\u00e1s, a los enzimas aspartatoquinasa, glutamato 5-quinasa, ump quinasa bacteriana y n-acetil l-glutamato sintasa. Dada la similitud de secuencia entre los enzimas de la familia amino\u00e1cido quinasa, el laboratorio propuso que el plegamiento de carbamato quinasa y acetilglutamato quinasa iba a ser com\u00fan al resto de enzimas de la familia y la puesta a prueba experimental de esta hip\u00f3tesis ha sido uno de los objetivos principales del laboratorio y de mi trabajo.  parte de mi trabajo inicial, se centra en la acetilglutamato quinasa (nagk), enzima cuya estructura hab\u00eda sido ya determinada a alta resoluci\u00f3n (ramon-maiques, et al., 2002), por otros miembros del grupo en el que he desarrollado mi trabajo. Mi trabajo en relaci\u00f3n con este enzima fue corroborar mediante mutag\u00e9nesis dirigida, las inferencias funcionales derivadas del estudio estructural previo.
