La activaci\u00f3n del receptor nuclear pparg por estos compuestos es responsable de la disminuci\u00f3n del tama\u00f1o de infarto y de un menor d\u00e9ficit neurol\u00f3gico tras la isquemia cerebral. Este efecto neuroprotector est\u00e1 mediado por la inhibici\u00f3n de la respuesta inflamatoria postisqu\u00e9mica en t\u00e9rminos de menor expresi\u00f3n y actividad de la sintasa de \u00f3xido n\u00edtrico inducible (inos \u00f3 nos-2) y de la metaloproteasa de matriz 9 (mmp-9 \u00f3 gelatinasa b) y por una inducci\u00f3n de sistemas citoprotectores (aumento de expresi\u00f3n de hemoxigenasa-1 o hsp-32 y dela producci\u00f3n de la prostaglandina citoprotectora 15dpgj2. Adem\u00e1s, estos compuestos frenan la respuesta isqu\u00e9mica delet\u00e9rea por activaci\u00f3n del factor nuclear kappa b (nfkb), y modulan la expresi\u00f3n g\u00e9nica tras la isquemia.     adem\u00e1s, la administraci\u00f3n de rosiglitazona produce una inducci\u00f3n de 5-lipoxigenasa (efecto dependiente de pparg, pues es prevenido por el tratamiento con t0070907, un antagonista del receptor nuclear). Esta enzima media la neuroprotecci\u00f3n por rosiglitazona (la inhibici\u00f3n de 5-lo con el f\u00e1rmaco bwa4c es capaz de eliminar el efecto neuroprotector de rosiglitazona en la isquemia) y su
