Se  hace hincapi\u00e9 en las aplicaciones de estos esquemas al procesamiento de im\u00e1genes digitales. En particular se define un  nuevo operador de reconstrucci\u00f3n, el cual da lugar a un esquema de subdivisi\u00f3n y de multirresoluci\u00f3n no lineal  pph (piecewise polynomial  harmonic) con unas caracter\u00edsticas que lo hacen muy atractivo para aplicaciones en el procesamiento de im\u00e1genes. Se prueba que el operador reconstrucci\u00f3n pph se adapta bien a la presencia de discontinuidades en los datos. Tambi\u00e9n se estudian las propiedades de preservaci\u00f3n de la convexidad de los operadores pph de reconstrucci\u00f3n y de subdivisi\u00f3n.  se aplica el esquema pph de multirresoluci\u00f3n para la compresi\u00f3n de im\u00e1genes digitales y los resultados conseguidos son bastante prometedores.  Adem\u00e1s de esta linea fundamental basada en el nuevo esquema pph, tambi\u00e9n se incluyen otros dos capitulos en los cuales  se trata de la aplicaci\u00f3n de la descomposici\u00f3n en valores singulares de una matriz para la compresi\u00f3n de im\u00e1genes  y del rellenado de zonas perdidas en una imagen respectivamente.  En el capitulo que se trata la svd,. Se da un algoritmo combinando dicha descomposici\u00f3n con las transformaciones de multirresoluci\u00f3n, y se analiza los pros y contras de esta estrategia.  La mayor aportaci\u00f3n del cap\u00edtulo consiste en dar  un algoritmo conjunto con control del error.  en el \u00faltimo cap\u00edtulo dedicado al rellenado de zonas perdidas en im\u00e1genes digitales se dise\u00f1a un algoritmo determinista que realiza el relleno de los datos de forma local .
