Para ello se tomaron muestras inalteradas de las canteras que historicamente abastecieron las obras de edificacion de ambos edificios.  posteriormente se analizaron los cambios que tales materiales sufrieron debido a procesos de alteracion en los edificios, cambios que se debieron a la formacion de distintos procesos de arenizacion, alveolizacion, desplacados, desarrollo de costras negras y procesos de cristalizacion de sales. Ademas se efectuaron distinto tipo de ensayos que permitieron estimar: a) el comportamiento hidrico de cada litotipo. B) se estimo la durabilidad de estos, mediante ensayos de alteracion en laboratorio, por cristalizacion de sales y ataque en atmosferas contaminadas. Esto permitio establecer modelos que satisfactoriamente explicaban los procesos y mecanismos de alteracion sufridos.  por ultimo, se plantearon y ensayaron diferentes soluciones para corregir, y en un futuro evitar, que tales procesos de alteracion progresen.
