Entre los contaminantes destacamos los metales pesados, ya que son contaminantes conservativos y que se acumulan a trav\u00e9s de las cadenas tr\u00f3ficas. En algunos caso la liberaci\u00f3n de contaminantes en el medio se ha de forma aguda y dr\u00e1stica, lo que puede provocar mortalidades masivas. De todas formas, por norma general la liberaci\u00f3n delos metales pesados al ambiente marino se da a bajas concentraciones y de forma cr\u00f3nica. el objetivo principal de esta tesis es analizar las respuestas de las esponjas a concentraciones subletales de metales pesados y determinar su utilidad como biomonitores de este tipo de contaminaci\u00f3n. En primer lugar, se ha estudiado la capacidad de las esponjas para acumular metales pesados tanto a una escala temporal como especial.  en segundo lugar, mediante el uso de diferentes biomarcadores, analizar los efectos subletales en las esponjas, a diferentes niveles de organizaci\u00f3n biol\u00f3gica, desde mol\u00e9culas hasta las poblaciones.
