Esta reacci\u00f3n en dos pasos, catalizada por dos tipos de microorganismos (aob y nob), puede sufrir graves problemas de inhibici\u00f3n por amon\u00edaco y \u00e1cido nitroso. Estas inhibiciones pueden ser importantes cuando se trata agua con alta concentraci\u00f3n de amonio y por tanto, se necesita un control del proceso adecuado. Por otra parte, las inhibiciones se pueden utilizar para conseguir la nitrificaci\u00f3n parcial (oxidaci\u00f3n del amonio a nitrito), la cual, combinada con el proceso de desnitrificaci\u00f3n aporta beneficios importantes por lo que respeta a la utilizaci\u00f3n de los recursos.  en esta tesis se muestra el desarrollo y calibraci\u00f3n de un modelo matem\u00e1tico para describir la cin\u00e9tica y estequiometr\u00eda de la nitrificaci\u00f3n. El modelo considera las inhibiciones mencionadas anteriormente y tiene en cuenta los dos tipos de bacterias nitrificantes y tambi\u00e9n las bacterias heter\u00f3trofas. Se dise\u00f1aron experimentos espec\u00edficos para la optimizaci\u00f3n de los par\u00e1metros del modelo y con la ayuda de herramientas de identificabilidad de par\u00e1metros, estos experimentos se analizaron y se mejoraron. Los dise\u00f1os de experimentos \u00f3ptimos fueron utilizados para la calibraci\u00f3n de la mayor\u00eda de los par\u00e1metros del modelo y los par\u00e1metros obtenidos se compararon con los valores encontrados en la bibliograf\u00eda. Las constantes de afinidad para el sustrato y el coeficiente de inhibici\u00f3n por sustrato se determinaron utilizando dos lodos diferentes y se obtuvieron resultados distintos. Esto indic\u00f3 que estos par\u00e1metros son variables y dependen de la aclimataci\u00f3n de la biomasa. El modelo final se introdujo en el modelo hidr\u00e1ulico del sistema experimental (planta piloto) y se implement\u00f3 en matlab. se utiliz\u00f3 la t\u00e9cnica de hibridaci\u00f3n fluorescente in
