Est\u00e1 perfectamente adaptada a la escasez estacional de pastos y a las altas temperaturas estivales y desde hace siglos es una parte esencial del ecosistema de la dehesa, preservando su biodiversidad. La mayor parte de las vacas se cr\u00edan en pureza y las hembras menos selectas se usan para cruces c\u00e1rnicos con charol\u00e9s o limusin, debido a las buenas caracter\u00edsticas maternales de la retinta. Pero esta rusticidad y adaptaci\u00f3n al medio ambiente llevan asociada una baja productividad; el intervalo entre partos es largo, con medias que var\u00edan entre 15,8 y los 16,4 meses en reba\u00f1os selectos. Esto conlleva que las temporadas de cubrici\u00f3n y partos sean largas, lo que dificulta la sincronizaci\u00f3n de la producci\u00f3n de terneros con la selecci\u00f3n dirigida y un sistema de largas temporadas de cubrici\u00f3n. En los sistemas extensivos de vacuno de carne, la temporada de cubrici\u00f3n debe estar concentrada y distribuida de manera que no evite la lactaci\u00f3n del ternero en periodos de escasez de pastos. Pero la retinta muestra una pobre respuesta a los tratamientos de inducci\u00f3n y sincronizaci\u00f3n de celo. Estudios previos de nuestro equipo surgieron que estos problemas reproductivos son debidos a una alta sensibilidad al efecto inhibitorio del ternero sobre la reanunci\u00f3n de la ciclicidad. Por esto, es necesario estudiar diferentes t\u00e9cnicas de inducci\u00f3n ovulatoria que mejoren la baja rentabilidad de las ganader\u00edas de retinto y desarrollar tecnolog\u00eda reproductiva que
