El estudio comparativo ha sido llevado a cabo, en primer lugar, mediante la revisi\u00f3n del estado del arte referente a estos dos procesos en cuanto a normativa aplicable, fundamentos, caracter\u00edsticas operacionales y microbiolog\u00eda del sistema. Y, en segundo lugar, mediante el trabajo experimental realizado en planta piloto (dos reactores cstr de 2.8 m3) y ensayos discontinuos, para dilucidar o corroborar algunos de los puntos planteados en la revisi\u00f3n. Especial importancia se le ha otorgado al proceso de solubilizaci\u00f3n de la materia particulada contenida en el fango urbano, dado que constituye el paso limitante de la digesti\u00f3n anaerobia de fangos. En este sentido, ha sido dedicado un apartado completo al estudio y determinaci\u00f3n de la cin\u00e9tica de solubilizaci\u00f3n anaerobia del fango urbano a temperatura mes\u00f3fila y term\u00f3fila. Los resultados de todo el trabajo experimental realizado han sido utilizados, por un lado, para el desarrollo de la \u00abmetodolog\u00eda de identificaci\u00f3n del fango urbano\u00bb -caracterizaci\u00f3n del fango afluente y calibraci\u00f3n de los coeficientes estequiom\u00e9tricos espec\u00edficos de la digesti\u00f3n anaerobia de fangos-. Y, por otro lado, para la aplicaci\u00f3n de la \u00abresoluci\u00f3n algebraica simplificada del modelo de digesti\u00f3n de lodos\u00bb (modelo estacionario) al caso en estudio, con objeto de reproducir el comportamiento de los digestores anaerobios mes\u00f3filo y term\u00f3filo en estacionario y demostrar su utilidad como herramienta de optimizaci\u00f3n de los par\u00e1metros de operaci\u00f3n del sistema y de par\u00e1metros sencillos de dise\u00f1o.   this thesis has been foccused on the comparative study of the mesophilic and thermophilic sewage sludge anaerobic digestion. Rhe comparative study has been carried out, on the one hand, through the revision of the existing literature on these two systems regarding the current regulations, the fundamental aspects, the operational characteristics and the microbiology of the processes; and on the other hand, by the experimental work performed in. Two pilot plants (two cstr digesters of 2.8 m3) and by some batch assays, with the aim of clarifying or corroborating some of the issues presented in the bibliographical review. Particular importance has been given to the solubilization of the sewage sludge particulate matter, being this process the limiting factor of the sludge anaerobic digestion, in this sense, a whole section has been used for the study and determination of the kinetics of the anaerobic solubilization of the sewage sludge under both mesophilic and thermophilic temperature conditions. To sum up, experimental results have been used firstly to develop \u00aba new methodology to identify sewage sludge\u00bb -influent sewage characterization and the calibration of specific stoichiometric coefficients of the sludge digestion-and secondly, to experimentany verify the algebraic solution of a new mathematical model for sewage sludge digesters, being the objective to reproduce the behaviour of the mesophilic and thermophilic anaerobic digesters and to demonstrate its usefulness as a tool to optimize both the operational parameters of the system and some design parameters.   tesi honek hiri hondakin uretako lohiak tratatzeko digestio anarobio mesofi loaren eta termofi loaren konparaketa du helburu nagus\u00ed.
