Eta familia est\u00e1 constituida por tres isoformas que intervienen en procesos espec\u00edficos: srebp1c que est\u00e1 implicado en la s\u00edntesis de \u00e1cidos grasos, en la homeostasis del tejido adiposo y en el metabolismo gluc\u00eddico inducido por insulina principalmente en el h\u00edgado. Srebp2 es relativamente espec\u00edfico de la s\u00edntesis de colesterol y la isoforma srebp1a que, aunque su expresi\u00f3n in vivo es muy reducida parece estar implicada tanto en la s\u00edntesis de \u00e1cidos grasos como de colesterol. la alteraci\u00f3n en el metabolismo de los \u00e1cidos grasos es un factor com\u00fan a muchos fen\u00f3menos caracter\u00edsticos de la diabetes tipo 2 (dm2), como son la resistencia perif\u00e9rica a insulina, el aumento de la gluconeog\u00e9nesis hep\u00e1tica, p\u00e9rdida de secreci\u00f3n de insulina inducida por glucosa y obesidad. Por tanto, genes implicados en la homeostasis lip\u00eddica buenos candidatos para condicionar la susceptibilidad a dm2. en este trabajo se ha examinado si variantes en el gen srebf1 (codifica las prote\u00ednas srebp1a y srebp1c) o variantes en el gen insig2 (insulin induced gen 2), implicado en la regulaci\u00f3n de srebp1, est\u00e1n asociadas con dm2 o con fenotipos relacionados con esta enfermedad. Para ello se analiz\u00f3 el gen srebf1 por scp en un grupo de pacientes con dm2, identificando distintas mutaciones y polimorfismos. Para el estudio de insig2, se realiz\u00f3 una b\u00fasqueda en las bases de datos del genoma humano y se seleccionaron los snp que potencialmente podr\u00edan modificar la expresi\u00f3n de esta prote\u00edna. tras la identificaci\u00f3n de estas variantes, se realiz\u00f3 un estudio gen\u00e9tico de asociaci\u00f3n con dm2 encontr\u00e1ndose distintas variantes en ambos genes que
