O proceso \u00e9 autotr\u00f3fico, polo que non \u00e9 preciso engadir materia org\u00e1nica. O proceso anammox d\u00e9bese combinar cunha primeira etapa de nitrificaci\u00f3n, na que soamente \u00e9 preciso nitrificar unha parte do amonio a nitrito, supo\u00f1endo isto un menor consumo de os\u00edxeno e de enerx\u00eda. Este proceso permitir\u00eda, polo tanto, minimizar o impacto medioambiental e os custes do proceso.   na primeira etapa da tese estudi\u00e1ronse as condici\u00f3ns id\u00f3neas para illar e desenrolar biomasa anammox a partir dunha lama mixta de depuradora, coa fin de poder aplicar este novo proceso nas plantas nas que non se dispo\u00f1a deste tipo de biomasa. Estudiouse a viabilidade de levar a cabo este proceso en reactores gaslift  e sbr (sequential batch reactor), as\u00ed como a optimizaci\u00f3n das condici\u00f3ns necesarias para favorecer o crecemento de dita biomasa.  a continuaci\u00f3n analizouse a operabilidade de reactores anammox. Para iso levouse a cabo un estudio da estabilidade a longo prazo da operaci\u00f3n do proceso anammox nun reactor sbr e nun reactor gaslift. Observ\u00e1ronse episodios ocasionais de flotaci\u00f3n da biomasa que se trataron de contrarrestar  nunha segunda parte do estudio, desenrolando unha estratexia baseada nunha nova distribuci\u00f3n do ciclo de operaci\u00f3n do sbr coa introducci\u00f3n dun per\u00edodo adicional de mestura. Desta forma conseguiuse aumentar a concentraci\u00f3n de biomasa no sistema ao diminu\u00edr a concentraci\u00f3n de s\u00f3lidos no efluente do reactor  e diminu\u00edr o \u00edndice volum\u00e9trico
