En este sentido, la desnitrificaci\u00f3n entendida como proceso natural m\u00e1s eficaz de eliminaci\u00f3n de nitrato, cobra una importancia extraordinaria en los estudios de contaminaci\u00f3n por nitr\u00f3geno en ecosistemas acu\u00e1ticos. En espa\u00f1a esta tesis representa el primer estudio cuantitativo del proceso de desnitrificaci\u00f3n y todos los procesos que influyen sobre ella en un ecosistema acu\u00e1tico. La investigaci\u00f3n se cenrtra en el estudio del ciclo biogeoqu\u00edmico del nitr\u00f3geno en un lago dependiente de las entradas de agua desde el acu\u00edfero, el cu\u00e1l es rico en nitrato. En concreto, se estudian los flujos de nitrato entre el acu\u00edfero y el lago, el ciclo anual del nitr\u00f3geno en el lago y la heterogeneidad temporal y espacial de la desnitrificaci\u00f3n y sus factores ambientales de control en las lagunas de ruidera. Adem\u00e1s, se presenta un meta-an\u00e1lisis del proceso de desnitrificaci\u00f3n y sus factores de control en ecosistemas acu\u00e1ticos. Finalmente, se hace una extensi\u00f3n del conocimiento actual de la desnitrificaci\u00f3n a potenciales organismos capaces de llevar a cabo el proceso, donde se descubre que los foramin\u00edferos bent\u00f3nicos son capaces de realizar el proceso completo de desnitrificaci\u00f3n en ambientes sin ox\u00edgeno.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Datos acad\u00e9micos de la tesis doctoral
