En el presente trabajo de tesis doctoral hemos investigado, por una parte, la funci\u00f3n normal de la prote\u00edna en procesos no patol\u00f3gicos y, por otra parte, la posible implicaci\u00f3n de la asin en mecanismos de muerte celular producidos por f\u00e1rmacos utilizados como modelos experimentales de la ep. La inactivaci\u00f3n de la expresi\u00f3n de asin produce una reducci\u00f3n del contenido vesicular en las sinapsis cerebrales, acompa\u00f1ado de una reducci\u00f3n del \u00e1rea del terminal sin\u00e1ptico s\u00f3lo en regiones donde la prote\u00edna se expresa en grandes cantidades, lo que indicar\u00eda una regulaci\u00f3n de asin a nivel de tr\u00e1fico vesicular y mantenimiento de membranas en el bot\u00f3n sin\u00e1ptico, pero no una regulaci\u00f3n directa sobre la neurotransmisi\u00f3n. Estas alteraciones morfol\u00f3gicas no se observan, por ejemplo, en el estriado de los ratones mutantes nulos para la asin, por lo que la ausencia de la prote\u00edna no parece afectar morfol\u00f3gicamente a aquellos terminales afectados en la ep.
