Mrsa constituye un serio problema para la salud p\u00fablica y es una de las principales causas de infecciones, no s\u00f3lo hospitalaria sino tambi\u00e9n dentro de la comunidad. La comprensi\u00f3n de las bases moleculares y funcionales de los mecanismos de resistencia ofrece, sin duda, perspectivas inmejorables para desarrollar nuevos f\u00e1rmacos capaces de vencer la resistencia a antibi\u00f3ticos beta-lact\u00e1micos. Se piensa que la clave est\u00e1 en las mol\u00e9culas involucradas en los mecanismos de regulaci\u00f3n dela producci\u00f3n de beta-lactamasas y pbp2a, por lo que estas mol\u00e9culas son dianas muy atractiva para el el desarrollo de nuevos f\u00e1rmacos. Esta tesis se basa en el estudio estructural y funcional del dominio extracelular de uni\u00f3n a penicilina pbd de la prote\u00edna sensora-transductora mecr1 que regula la resistencia a antibi\u00f3ticos beta-lact\u00e1micos en mrsa. En este trabajo se resuelve la estructura tridimensional de dicho dominio, tanto en su forma libre como en complejo con dos antibi\u00f3ticos, la oxacilina y la bencilpenicilina. Se desarrolla un modelo que explica el paso de esta prote\u00edna desde un estado inactivo en ausencia de antibi\u00f3ticos, a un estado activo en su presencia. Adem\u00e1s se hace un an\u00e1lisis global del mecanismo de resistencia de mrsa, a la luz de las estructuras del dominio de uni\u00f3n a penicilina de la prote\u00edna sensora-transductora de la
