Endoglina se expresa abundantemente en c\u00e9lulas endoteliales, donde parece jugar un papel fundamental como mol\u00e9cula proangiog\u00e9nica. en este trabajo hemos caracterizado la presencia de dos isoformas de endoglina (l y s) en tejidos de rat\u00f3n, previamente caracterizadas en tejidos humanos. L-endoglina es la isoforma predominante en todos los tejidos. S-endoglina se expresa significativamente en h\u00edgado, pulm\u00f3n, y en l\u00edneas celulares endoteliales murinas, y es capaz de formar heterod\u00edmeros con la isoforma l a trav\u00e9s de sus dominios extracelulares comunes. Para estudiar la funci\u00f3n de s-endoglina in vivo hemos utilizado un modelo de rat\u00f3n transg\u00e9nico (s-eng+) que sobreexpresa s-endoglina en el endotelio vascular. S-endoglina no es capaz de rescatar el fenotipo letal embrionario de los ratones eng-\/- y los ratones s-eng+ exhiben una respuesta angiog\u00e9nica tumoral reducida respecto a los ratones control. Estos resultados sugieren una funci\u00f3n antag\u00f3nica y antiangiog\u00e9nica de s-endoglina con respecto a l-endoglina. el hallazgo de la expresi\u00f3n de endoglina en los queratinocitos basales de la epidermis y en sus anejos (fol\u00edculos pilosos y gl\u00e1ndulas sudor\u00edparas) nos indujo a estudiar la expresi\u00f3n de l- y s-endoglina en los distintos estad\u00edos de la carcinog\u00e9nesis qu\u00edmica de piel de rat\u00f3n: papilomas benignos, carcinomas escamosos bien o moderadamente diferenciados (scc) y carcinomas indiferenciados o fusocelulares (spcc). Mientras que la expresi\u00f3n de s-endoglina en la epidermis normal y en los tumores es irrelevante, l-endoglina sufre una rotura proteol\u00edtica (shedding) durante la progresi\u00f3n scc-spcc que inactiva la prote\u00edna asociada a membrana (meng) y libera una forma soluble de endoglina (seng) en el estroma. La reducci\u00f3n de la expresi\u00f3n de meng en c\u00e9lulas de scc mediante sirna, y la expresi\u00f3n de l- y s-endoglina en c\u00e9lulas de spcc, demuest<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Datos
