Cada uno de los electrodos posee una sensibilidad no espec\u00edfica ante algunos de los par\u00e1metros o compuestos qu\u00edmicos de las muestras a analizar. El conjunto de electrodos aportan una serie de se\u00f1ales que se analizan de forma conjunta, para as\u00ed obtener conclusiones de inter\u00e9s, normalmente en la discriminaci\u00f3n de muestras complejas o la cuantificaci\u00f3n de algunos de sus componentes. A este tipo de sistemas de medida se le denominan lenguas electr\u00f3nicas.  Los sistemas de medida desarrollados utilizan sensores de tipo potenciom\u00e9trico y est\u00e1n construidos con pastas de la tecnolog\u00eda de capa gruesa (thick-film), y tambi\u00e9n por electrodos met\u00e1licos simples en estado puro. Con este m\u00e9todo se consiguen dispositivos con caracter\u00edsticas de sencillez de construcci\u00f3n, robustez mec\u00e1nica, f\u00e1cil manejo y bajo costo. Con las se\u00f1ales obtenidas se aplican t\u00e9cnicas de reconocimiento de patrones, como son el an\u00e1lisis de componentes principales, redes neuronales artificiales, t\u00e9cnicas predictivas
