Los alimentos funcionales prebi\u00f3ticos favorecen la proliferaci\u00f3n de la microbiota beneficiosa, modulando a trav\u00e9s de su efecto bifidog\u00e9nico una serie de procesos homeost\u00e1ticos y funciones sist\u00e9micas, cuya alteraci\u00f3n est\u00e1 implicada en la etiopatogenia de algunas de estas patolog\u00edas prevalentes.  para obtener evidencia cient\u00edfica de los efectos saludables de un alimento prebi\u00f3tico, \u00c2\u00abm\u00e1svital\u00c2\u00ae\u00c2\u00bb, compuesto por leche fermentada y fibra soluble alimentaria (inulina al 2%) se ha realizado el presente estudio de intervenci\u00f3n cl\u00ednica en 150 personas mayores que consumieron, bien el prebi\u00f3tico durante dos meses (grupo mvt), o el correspondiente placebo (grupo control). Se realiz\u00f3 un an\u00e1lisis de la composici\u00f3n de la microbiota (bifidobacterias y microorganismos totales), de su actividad enzim\u00e1tica (beta-glucosidasa, beta-glucuronidasa) y fermentadora (\u00e1cidos org\u00e1nicos de cadena corta, aoccs) en heces. Tambi\u00e9n se evalu\u00f3 el efecto del tratamiento sobre los niveles plasm\u00e1ticos de colesterol total y ligado a lipoprote\u00ednas, triglic\u00e9ridos, minerales e indicadores de salud general, as\u00ed como la calidad de vida gastrointestinal mediante el cuestionario giqli.  el consumo regular de \u00c2\u00abm\u00e1svital\u00c2\u00ae\u00c2\u00bb a lo largo de dos meses tiene un claro efecto prebi\u00f3tico en las personas mayores, caracterizado por una mayor presencia de bifidobacterias en las heces y por un cambio en la actividad metab\u00f3lica de la microbiota, con aumento de la concentraci\u00f3n de aoccs y reducci\u00f3n de la actividad de las enzimas microbianas estudiadas. Adem\u00e1s, disminuye el ph fecal, aumenta la hidrataci\u00f3n de las heces, la calcemia y tiene un efecto hipocolesterolemiante, que persiste a los 15 d\u00edas de interrumpir el consumo. Por \u00faltimo, las personas que toman \u00c2\u00abm\u00e1svital\u00c2\u00ae\u00c2\u00bb perciben una clara y significativa mejor\u00eda de su calidad de vida
