Existe pocas dudas sobre que los procesos de degradaci\u00f3n biol\u00f3gica sigan siendo los m\u00e1s extendido para el tratamiento de aguas residuales. Sin embargo, cuando los procesos biol\u00f3gicos sigan siendo los m\u00e1s extendidos para el tratamiento de aguas residuales.  sin embargo, cuando los procesos biol\u00f3gicos se aplican al tratamiento de efluentes industriales, no siempre dan lugar a resultados satisfactorios, ya que muchas substancias org\u00e1nicas producidas por las industrias qu\u00edmicas son inhbidoradas, t\u00f3xicas o resistentes a la oxidaci\u00f3n biol\u00f3gica. La oxidaci\u00f3n h\u00fameda catal\u00edtica (cwao, el ingl\u00e9s catalytic wet air oxidation) es una de las tecnolog\u00edas m\u00e1s prometedoras para el tratamiento de aguas con alta carga org\u00e1nica y\/o que contengan contaminantes biot\u00f3xicos. Adem\u00e1s, el proceso cwao recientemente ha demostrado ser efectivo como pretratamiento qu\u00edmico, dando lugar a afluentes que pudieran ser tratados con un posterior tratamiento biol\u00f3gico.  una opci\u00f3n para suavizar las condiciones de operaci\u00f3n en la cwao o para el tratamiento de contaminantes resistentes a este proceso es a\u00f1adir peque\u00f1as cantidades de un oxidante m\u00e1s potente que el aire como es el per\u00f3xido de hidrogeno. Este proceso se ha denominado oxidaci\u00f3n h\u00fameda catal\u00edtica promovida con per\u00f3xido de hidr\u00f3geno (pp-cwao, del ingl\u00e9s peroxide promoted catalytic wet aire oxidation). Para el estudio de este recientemente desarrollado proceso, la actividad catal\u00edtica y la estabilidad del carb\u00f3n activo (ac) se ha probado en la pp-cwao de soluciones acuosas de fenol.
