Entre sus funciones se encuentra la participaci\u00f3n en procesos de inmunidad cerebral, presentando propiedades tanto proinflamatorias como antiinflamatorias. Por otra parte, los estados inflamatorios cerebrales modulan la muerte neuronal que tiene lugar en m\u00faltiples neuropatolog\u00edas. As\u00ed, proponemos esclarecer las rutas de se\u00f1alizaci\u00f3n en el astrocito que est\u00e1n implicadas en la inmunidad cerebral como medio para el desarrollo futuro de nuevas dianas terap\u00e9uticas en enfermedades neurodegenerativas. Las glitazonas son un grupo de f\u00e1rmacos antidiab\u00e9ticos, que adem\u00e1s presentan un amplio abanico de acciones antiinflamatorias en el cerebro. Estos compuestos son agonistas del receptor ? Activado por proliferadores peroxisomales (ppar?) Y afectan a la supervivencia de distintos tipos celulares. Recientemente han suscitado un creciente inter\u00e9s porque preservan la integridad neuronal en modelos animales de enfermedad de alzheimer. El receptor nuclear ppar? Est\u00e1 presente en el astrocito, y su estimulaci\u00f3n regula el metabolismo energ\u00e9tico y la respuesta inmune cerebral. Sin embargo, se han identificado acciones de las glitazonas que no est\u00e1n mediadas por ppar?. La primera parte de esta memoria de tesis est\u00e1 dedicada a explorar las acciones de las glitazonas sobre la viabilidad celular de los astrocitos, y cu\u00e1l es el mecanismo molecular que media esta posible acci\u00f3n citot\u00f3xica. Para ello estudiamos los efectos de tres glitazonas (pioglitazona, rosiglitazona y ciglitazona) sobre la viabilidad celular tanto de cultivos primarios de astrocitos de rata como de las l\u00edneas celulares de glioma c6 (rata) y u251 (humano), encontrando que las glitazonas ejercen una acci\u00f3n citot\u00f3xica sensiblemente mayor en c\u00e9lulas de glioma que en astrocitos primarios.
