El fenomeno requiere la incorporacion y la fosforilacion del azucar asi como el producto del gen gg51, y no requiere los productos de los genes trk1 y trk2.  la neomicina pone de manifiesto la posible existencia de una nueva via de regulacion del transporte de potasio: la via del fosfatidil-inositol. El gen trk2 es responsable de un modo de transporte de moderada afinidad y baja velocidad maxima, que se regula por el potasio interno, pero que no se afecta por el ph interno, ni por
