Ante situaciones ambientales adversas (por ejemplo carencia de nutrientes o exceso de luz) estos organismos exhiben un mecanismo de adaptaci\u00f3n conocido como clorosis o bleaching, que implica la degradaci\u00f3n de los complejos antena del aparato fotosint\u00e9tico. La histidina quinasa nbls (non-bleaching sensor) de la cianobacteria synechococcus sp. Pcc 7492, juega un papel fundamental en la regulaci\u00f3n del proceso de clorosis como respuesta a exceso de luz o carencia de nutrientes como nitr\u00f3geno. A pesar de su demostrada importancia y de ser la histidina quinasa m\u00e1s conservada en este grupo de microorganismos, se desconocen tanto las se\u00f1ales que detecta como la identidad de los componentes que participan junto a ella en la transmisi\u00f3n de la se\u00f1al utilizando el sistema del doble h\u00edbrido de levaduras y utilizando nbls como prote\u00edna cebo, hemos identificado una prote\u00edna de funci\u00f3n desconocida, sipa (nbls interacting prote\u00edna a), capaz de interaccionar espec\u00edficamente con el dominio de uni\u00f3n a atp de esta histidina quinasa. la conservaci\u00f3n de los genes nbls y sipa apoya la relevancia fisiol\u00f3gica de esta interacci\u00f3n. Las cianobacterias son capaces de percibir y responder ante cambios en la disponibilidad de fuentes de nitr\u00f3geno. La prote\u00edna ntca; conocida como el regulador global del nitr\u00f3geno, y la prote\u00edna transductora de se\u00f1ales pii, una de las m\u00e1s conservadas en transucci\u00f3n de se\u00f1ales, constituyen dos reguladores clave del metabolismo del nitr\u00f3geno en cianobacterias. Ambas prote\u00ednas son capaces de responder a los niveles de 2-oxoglutarato, mol\u00e9cula que en cianobacterias sirve como un excelente indicador del status de nitr\u00f3geno intracelular. Adem\u00e1s, existen evidencias gen\u00e9ticas de interacci\u00f3n funcional entre pii y ntca. Ntca, perteneciente a la superfamilia crp\/cap, controla la expresi\u00f3n de m\u00faltiples genes, principalmente implicados en el metabolismo del nitr\u00f3geno.
