La tendencia actual es aplicar tratamientos de eliminaci\u00f3n de nutrientes sobre aquellas corrientes ricas en contaminante.  en estas tesis doctoral se ha trabajado con distintas aguas residuales con alto contenido en nitr\u00f3geno amoniacal al proceder de un tratamiento de digesti\u00f3n anaer\u00f3bica de residuos org\u00e1nicos altamente proteicos: sobrenadante de digesti\u00f3n anaer\u00f3bica de fangos de estaciones depuradotas de aguas residuales (edar) municipales, sofrenadamente de digesti\u00f3n anaer\u00f3bica de la fracci\u00f3n org\u00e1nica de residuos municipales (form) y sobrenadante  de digesti\u00f3n anaer\u00f3bica de pudines de cerdo. Entre las posibles alternativas de tratamiento de dichas aguas residuales, el tratamiento biol\u00f3gico acostumbra a ser el m\u00e1s recomendable, en base a la  eficiencia de tratamiento y los costes de instalaci\u00f3n y operaci\u00f3n.   para tratar esta agua residuales se ha llevado a cabo un estudio de operaci\u00f3n y modelado de diferentes tratamientos avanzados de eliminaci\u00f3n biol\u00f3gica de nitr\u00f3geno: en primer lugar, la utilizaci\u00f3n de un reactor discontinuo secuencial en el cual se realiza un proceso de nitrificaci\u00f3n\/desnitrificaci\u00f3n v\u00eda nitrito, lo cual supone un ahorro, respecto a los tratamientos biol\u00f3gicos convencionales, del 25% de los costes de aireaci\u00f3n y del 40% de materia org\u00e1nica externa para desnitrificar. Por otro lado, se ha experimentado el tratamiento biol\u00f3gico de nitr\u00f3geno en un reactor sharon\/desnitrificaci\u00f3n, que conduce a una reducci\u00f3n de costes similar a la obtenida en un reactor secuencial por cargas. Finalmente, se ha estudiado la utilizaci\u00f3n de un sistema combinado de nitrificaci\u00f3n parcial y anammox. Respecto al tratamiento convencional, esta tecnolog\u00eda evita la necesidad de usar materia org\u00e1nica para desnitrificar y conduce a un ahorro del 65% de los costes de aireaci\u00f3n, produciendo muy poca cantidad de fangos. Sin embargo, los puntos d\u00e9biles del proceso de nitrificaci\u00f3n parcial\/anammox son el lento crecimiento de la biomasa anammox y su baja resistencia a
