En este cribado se identific\u00f3 y aisl\u00f3 el mutante ern1 (enhanced resistance to necrotrophs1), el cual muestra un incremento significativo de la resistencia frente a p. Cucumerina, y otros pat\u00f3genos necrotrofos, como botrytis cinerea, y vasculares, como ralstonia solanacearum gmi1000 y fusarium oxysporum f. Sp. Conglutinans. La mutaci\u00f3n ern1 fue identificada mediante clonaje por paseo cromos\u00f3mico, comprob\u00e1ndose que el gen mutado era el cesa8\/irx1\/ern1, que codifica una celulosa sintasa (cesa) requerida para la s\u00edntesis de celulosa de pared secundaria. En arabidopsis thaliana se requieren tres tipos distintos de subunidades cesa (cesa4\/irregular xylem5 [irx5], cesa7\/irx3 y cesa8\/irx1) para la formaci\u00f3n de la pared celular secundaria. Hemos demostrado que mutantes de a. Thaliana defectivos en cada una estas prote\u00ednas ten\u00edan una mayor resistencia que las plantas silvestres frente al hongo necrotrofo p. Cucumerina y frente a la bacteria vascular r. Solanacearum gmi1000. Por el contrario, la susceptibilidad a estos pat\u00f3genos no estuvo alterada en mutantes en subunidades cesa de pared celular primaria (cesa1, cesa3\/isoxaben resistant1 [ixr1] y cesa6\/ixr2). El an\u00e1lisis gen\u00e9tico de dobles mutantes indic\u00f3 que la resistencia mediada por irx1\/ern1 era independiente de la se\u00f1alizaci\u00f3n mediada por las rutas de defensa del \u00e1cido salic\u00edlico, etileno, jasmonato, y de los genes reguladores erecta y agb1. Los an\u00e1lisis transcript\u00f3micos comparativos de mutantes ern1\/irx1 y plantas silvestres permitieron identificar un conjunto de genes sobreexpresados de forma constitutiva en irx1\/ern1,
