Esta importante funci\u00f3n de ampk como sensor energ\u00e9tico conservado evolutivamente y regulador clave del metabolismo estar\u00eda, adem\u00e1s, apoyada por el papel de su ort\u00f3logo en el metabolismo de la glucosa del eucariota unicelular saccharomyces cerevisiae. La prote\u00edna se activa en respuesta a un aumento en la relaci\u00f3n de amp respecto a atp en el interior de la c\u00e9lula y, por lo tanto, act\u00faa como un eficiente sensor del estado energ\u00e9tico celular. Con el objetivo de mantener el balance energ\u00e9tico celular, la activaci\u00f3n de ampk va a inhibir rutas anab\u00f3licas y otros procesos que consuman atp, mientras que va a activar rutas catab\u00f3licas que generen atp. Estos efectos se alcanzan tanto por fosforilaci\u00f3n r\u00e1pida y directa de enzimas metab\u00f3licas como a trav\u00e9s de efectos a largo t\u00e9rmino en la expresi\u00f3n de genes y prote\u00ednas.. Debido al papel central que ampk tiene en el control del metabolismo energ\u00e9tico, la identificaci\u00f3n de nuevas prote\u00ednas que puedan interaccionar con ella puede ayudar al entendimiento de las funciones de ampk.  mediante un escrutinio de doble h\u00edbrido en levadura de una genoteca de cdna de p\u00e1ncreas humano y, utilizando ampk ?2 como cebo, se identific\u00f3 trip6. Trip6 es un coactivador transcripcional perteneciente a una familia de prote\u00ednas con dominios lim, que incluye a la zixina, y que se localizan en placas de adhesi\u00f3n focal. Trip6, adem\u00e1s de interaccionar con la subunidad catal\u00edtica de ampk cuando ambas prote\u00ednas est\u00e1n en el n\u00facleo, tambi\u00e9n aparece fosforilado en su extremo amino-terminal por acci\u00f3n de ampk in vitro. Y aunque la activaci\u00f3n de ampk no afecta a la localizaci\u00f3n subcelular de trip6, s\u00ed que incrementa sus propiedades transactivadoras. \u00faltimamente se ha apuntado a trip6 como coactivador de genes regulados por nf- b.
