La metilaci\u00f3n consiste en la uni\u00f3n de un grupo metilo al carbono 5 de la citosina en el contexto del dinucle\u00f3tido cpg. Esta se\u00f1al es reconocida por una familia de prote\u00ednas que contiene un dominio de uni\u00f3n a dna metilado conocida como familia mbd, que tras reconocer esta marca epigen\u00e9tica recluta actividades modificadoras de las histonas y remodeladoras de la cromatina a las secuencias metiladas.
