Este trabajo se bas\u00f3 en el genotipado de los genes adh1b y adh1c, en 876 individuos sanos y alcoh\u00f3licos de cinco poblaciones europeas: tarragona, bordeaux, heidelberg, stockholm y krak\u00f3w. Los alelos adh1b*2 y adh1c*1, que codifican formas m\u00e1s activas de adh, presentan frecuencias del 0-5,4% y del 47,6-62,5%, respectivamente, en controles sanos. Asimismo, se ha establecido el efecto protector de adh1b*2 frente al excesivo consumo de alcohol (con una frecuencia del 1,3% en alcoh\u00f3licos vs. 3,8% en no alcoh\u00f3licos), as\u00ed como la asociaci\u00f3n de este alelo con adh1c*1 en la poblaci\u00f3n europea. en la segunda parte, el estudio de la adh en el g\u00e9nero xenopus, ha puesto de manifiesto la complejidad de este sistema en anfibios. Las especies x. Laevis i x. Tropicalis son modelos cl\u00e1sicos en biolog\u00eda celular y del desarrollo. Dada la dificultad inherente al hecho de que x. Laevis es un organismo tetraploide, se analizaron las bases de datos del proyecto genoma de x. Tropicalis, identific\u00e1ndose once genes adh. Entre los resultados m\u00e1s destacables, se ha constatado la ausencia de adh4 en anfibios, por lo que estar\u00eda circunscrita a los mam\u00edferos. La clase adh8, caracterizada por su singular especificidad para el nadp(h), se ha identificado por primera vez fuera del g\u00e9nero rana. Se han identificado tambi\u00e9n genes y formas enzim\u00e1ticas correspondientes a las clases m\u00e1s ancestrales, adh1 y adh3. Adem\u00e1s, se han hallado adh2 y adh5\/7, hasta ahora s\u00f3lo descritas en vertebrados superiores, de modo que su origen ser\u00eda anterior a la divergencia anfibios\/amniotas, y se han descubierto dos nuevas clases, adh9 y adh10, observadas \u00fanicamente en anfibios. Adh8, adh9 y adh10 parecen provenir de duplicaciones de un gen adh1 ancestral que habr\u00edan ocurrido exclusivamente en el linaje de los anfibios.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Datos acad\u00e9micos de
