Desde su identificaci\u00f3n, se ha relacionado a la resistina con la resistencia a insulina y el desarrollo de diabetes tipo ii en roedores. La resistina incrementa la gluconeog\u00e9nesis hep\u00e1tica, aumentando los niveles de glucosa plasm\u00e1ticos a la vez que disminuye la captura de glucosa por parte del tejido adiposo y el m\u00fasculo. Asimismo, en el tejido adiposo la resistina induce la lip\u00f3lisis aumentando, por tanto, los niveles de \u00e1cidos grasos y glicerol en sangre. Recientemente, la s-resistina (short-resistin) se ha descrito como una nueva variante de resistina, generada mediante splicing alternativo en tejido adiposo de ratas wistar. El mecanismo de splicing elimina el ex\u00f3n 2, donde se localiza la se\u00f1al de secreci\u00f3n, gener\u00e1ndose as\u00ed una isoforma de resistina no secretada por el adipocito. Ensayos de expresi\u00f3n transitoria realizados en distintas l\u00edneas celulares demuestran que esta nueva variante se localiza preferentemente en el n\u00facleo celular, lo que sugiere que s-resistina actuar\u00eda como un factor intracrino que podr\u00eda regular la expresi\u00f3n g\u00e9nica del adipocito y\/o la adipog\u00e9nesis. en el presente trabajo hemos analizado el efecto de distintos factores como el envejecimiento, la restricci\u00f3n nutricional as\u00ed como los niveles de leptina e insulina sobre los niveles de expresi\u00f3n de ambas variantes en el tejido adiposo de la rata wistar. Asimismo, hemos estudiado el papel que la resistina y s-resistina pueden ejercer en el proceso adipog\u00e9nico nuestros resultados apuntan la posibilidad de que la resistina y su variante intracelular, s-resistina, puedan ejercer un importante papel como se\u00f1ales paracrina e intracrina, respectivamente, que regulen el grado de adiposidad, de una manera espec\u00edfica de tejido.
