En los \u00faltimos a\u00f1os, el desarrollo de m\u00e9todos autom\u00e1ticos de contaje e identificaci\u00f3n han permitido incrementar la resoluci\u00f3n espacial y temporal de estas investigaciones, abriendo as\u00ed un nuevo horizonte en el estudio del plancton.  en esta tesis, se han utilizado sistemas autom\u00e1ticos basados en an\u00e1lisis de imagen (la flowcam y el zooimage), con el objetivo de estudiar la distribuci\u00f3n de ano-microplancton y mesozooplancton en el golfo de vizcaya. La buena resoluci\u00f3n espacial y la calidad de las im\u00e1genes obtenidas nos han permitido: (1) obtener una descripci\u00f3n de la distribuci\u00f3n de nano-microimplancton y mesozooplancton en el golfo de vizcaya con una resoluci\u00f3n de mesoescala. (2) utilizar modelos predictivos de h\u00e1bitat (gams) para una estimar la biomasa de plancton a partir de determinadas variables f\u00edsicas y biol\u00f3gicas, consiguiendo unos valores significativos de variabilidad explicada; (3) investigar la influencia de dichas variables en la distribuci\u00f3n espacial del plancton, as\u00ed como en los cambios en la estructura de tama\u00f1os que tienen lugar en el nano-microplancton durante un bloom de biomasa (control bottom-up frente a control top-down). (4) diferenciar las diatomeas y los ciliados de mayor tama\u00f1o del resto de los componentes de la comunidad planct\u00f3nica, mediante t\u00e9cnicas de clasificaci\u00f3n autom\u00e1tica de im\u00e1genes.  en vista de los resultados obtenidos, consideramos que el uso de m\u00e9todos autom\u00e1ticos basados en an\u00e1lisis de imagen constituye una herramienta eficaz para el estudio de la distribuci\u00f3n de plancton y su interacci\u00f3n con factores f\u00edsicos y biol\u00f3gicos. Esto es especialmente relevante para estudios que requieran una buena resoluci\u00f3n espacial\/temporal, y puedan sacrificar ciertos niveles de detalle
