Pero esta limitaci\u00f3n, a diferencia de arist\u00f3teles y plat\u00f3n, implica una dimensi\u00f3n conflictiva. La violencia aparece como el gran peligro que amenaza las relaciones humanas. Es la relaci\u00f3n de imitaci\u00f3n entre un sujeto y su modelo lo que da al deseo su car\u00e1cter conflictivo. Sin embargo, la amistad y el antagonismo, el amor y el odio, la atracci\u00f3n y la repulsi\u00f3n, proceden del mismo impulso; de manera que el n\u00facleo del deseo alberga una estructura parad\u00f3jica en su interior.  el cuadro resultante ser\u00e1 una comunidad de \u00abhermanos-enemigos\u00bb en la que cualquier conflicto amenaza con una violencia interminable que desemboque en una crisis que ponga en peligro su propia existencia. Para conservar el orden  social se hace necesario expulsar del seno de la comunidad esa violencia precisamente mediante la violencia. De hecho, todo orden social y cultural est\u00e1 fundado por la violencia un\u00e1nime en torno a una v\u00edctima. Se trata del mecanismo del chivo expiatorio presente en la formaci\u00f3n de los distintos \u00f3rdenes culturales.  la violencia, por tanto, amenaza constantemente la estabilidad del orden social. La funci\u00f3n primordial de la religi\u00f3n ser\u00e1 mantener alejada de la comunidad esa violencia. El m\u00e9todo del que se ha servido es el sacrificio: hacer converger toda la violencia hacia una v\u00edctima. El orden nace del desorden; la paz, de la violencia. Esta ambiValencia de la violencia es, en definitiva, la paradoja de lo sagrado, deriva a su vez de la mimesis del deseo. Y esta paradoja se prolonga en el orden social que funda y ordena (ritos, mitos, prohibiciones, signos diferenciados, etc.).  finalmente, girard reivindica la relevancia de los evangelios en general y el relato de la pasi\u00f3n concretamente, pues describen expl\u00edcitamente todo el sistema de chivo expiatorio. La revelaci\u00f3n cristiana denuncia la ley de la violencia y rehabilita todas las v\u00edctimas.
