No obstante, la importancia de su participaci\u00f3n en algunos de estos procesos, no ha sido aun suficientemente clarificada. En el presente trabajo se ha intentado profundizar en el efecto que la falta simultanea de p21 y p53 tiene sobre la viabilidad y el espectro tumoral en modelos murinos. El an\u00e1lisis fenot\u00edpico de los mutantes generados demostr\u00f3 que la viabilidad del doble mutante se encuentra sensiblemente reducida, lo que sugiere la participaci\u00f3n de ambos genes en procesos independientes durante el desarrollo del rat\u00f3n. Por otro lado, el doble mutante desarrolla tumores de forma espont\u00e1nea con un periodo medio de latencia de 8.6 meses, que se sit\u00faa entre los 5.9 y 18.2 observados con mayor frecuencia en el doble mutante y en el mutante sencillo para p21, el mutante sencillo para p53 desarrolla fundamentalmente linfomas t. Con objeto de estudiar con mayor detalle el papel de p21 en el desarrollo de linfomas t\u00edmicos, los distintos modelos fueron sometidos a un protocolo de inducci\u00f3n de tumores mediante radiaci\u00f3n gamma. Los ratones nulos para p53 fueron extremadamente sensibles a este tratamiento, pero, sorprendentemente, la falta simultanea de p21 reduce significativamente dicha sensibilidad. Los linfomas t nulos par ap21 presentaban tasas de apoptosis mas elevadas que los que mantienen la integridad de este gen. Estos resultados sugieren que p21 debe proporcionar alg\u00fan tipo de ventaja proliferativa a las c\u00e9lulas t del timo en un estadio neopl\u00e1sico o preneopl\u00e1sico y que esta prote\u00edna
