La presente tesis doctoral est\u00e1 orientada a la obtenci\u00f3n de mullita como \u00fanica fase cristalina a temperaturas bajas (sobre 980\u00c2\u00bac), evitando la formaci\u00f3n de fase espinela.  Para ello se ha aplicado un m\u00e9todo de s\u00edntesis basado en el m\u00e9todo sol-gel y un tratamiento t\u00e9rmico a velocidades de calcinaci\u00f3n elevadas que han permitido obtener un precursor de mullita de elevada homogeneidad qu\u00edmica.  en primer lugar se ha estudiado el sistema sio2.Al2o3, tanto la composici\u00f3n estequiom\u00e9trica 3al2o3.2sio2 (3:2) como la composici\u00f3n 2al2o3.Sio2 (2:1), que representa el contenido m\u00e1ximo de al\u00famina de la mullita estable. El estudio de la mullita 2:1es interesante ya que existen escasos trabajos cient\u00edficos referidos a esta composici\u00f3n.  las caracter\u00edsticas estructurales de la mullita hacen prever que formar\u00e1 disoluciones s\u00f3lidas con cationes de metales de transici\u00f3n. Por eso, conocidas las caracter\u00edsticas del sistema de referencia, se ha estudiado el efecto que produce la introducci\u00f3n de dos cationes: ti4+ y ni2+, con marcada tendencia a la coordinaci\u00f3n octa\u00e9drica. las muestras se han tratado con diferentes t\u00e9cnicas de caracterizaci\u00f3n, tal como difracci\u00f3n de rayos x, resonancia magn\u00e9tica nuclear y espectroscop\u00eda infrarroja. Adicionalmente se han determinado los par\u00e1metros de celda de las muestras aplicando dos programas inform\u00e1ticos: powcal y lsqc, lo que tambi\u00e9n ha permitido estimar el l\u00edmite de disoluci\u00f3n s\u00f3lida de los cationes en la estructura de la mullita. Por otro lado se ha realizado un estudio microestructural aplicando las t\u00e9cnicas convencionales, como microscop\u00eda electr\u00f3nica de barrido y de transmisi\u00f3n, y tambi\u00e9n se ha estudiado la microestructura del material a nivel de cristalito y de microtensiones, para esto se han aplicado m\u00e9todos de an\u00e1lisis de perfil a partir datos de difracci\u00f3n de rayos
