Estos receptores son prote\u00ednas oligom\u00e9ricas formadas por la asociaci\u00f3n de subunidades b\u00e1sicas en una estequiometr\u00eda pentam\u00e9rica. A pesar de los avances realizados en los \u00faltimos a\u00f1os, se conoce poco de los mecanismos implicados en la biog\u00e9nesis y ensamblaje de las subunidades de receptores colin\u00e9rgicos. Especialmente, se desconocen todav\u00eda muchos de los determinantes moleculares que gobiernan este proceso. Por ello, el objetivo central de la tesis ha sido estudiar el papel de una triada de residuos de arginina en la biog\u00e9nesis del receptor homom\u00e9rico alpha-7. La estrategia experimental se ha basado en la caracterizaci\u00f3n semifuncional de receptores que portaban mutaciones en estas posiciones. El an\u00e1lisis semifuncional se ha basado en la caracterizaci\u00f3n de los niveles de prote\u00edna total y expersada superficialmente y su comparaci\u00f3n con los niveles de la prote\u00edna silvestre. Los resultados obtenidos muestran que la arg-208 y arg-210 juegan un papel clave en el proceso de la biog\u00e9nesis y su mutaci\u00f3n tiene alteraciones notorias en la expresi\u00f3n total y superficial de las subunidades del receptor. En particular, la inclusi\u00f3n de un amino\u00e1cido hidrof\u00f3bico elimina completamente la expresi\u00f3n de la prote\u00edna. Consecuentemente,    la informaci\u00f3n obtenida permite concluir que esta triada de argininas, especialmente 208 y 210, son determinantes moleculares de la biog\u00e9nesis del receptor
