En esta direcci\u00f3n, el presente trabajo explora la posibilidad de reutilizaci\u00f3n del lodo rojo, un residuo industrial generado en enormes cantidades pior la industria del aluminio, como integrante de sistemas de barrera de contenci\u00f3n y atenuaci\u00f3n de residuos t\u00f3xicos y peligrosos. Para ello, el trabajo se cimienta en cuatro puntos fundamentales: la caracterizaci\u00f3n f\u00edsica y qu\u00edmica el residuo, el estudio de sus propiedades geot\u00e9cnicas en relaci\u00f3n a la aplicaci\u00f3n  propuesta, la compatibilidad qu\u00edmica y ambiental del lodo rojo y sus propiedades para retener contaminantes extremadamente t\u00f3xicos, en concreto ars\u00e9nico y mercurio.  los resultados presentados a lo largo del trabajo indican que, con un m\u00ednimo pretratamiento consistente en su secado y compactaci\u00f3n, la utilizaci\u00f3n del dolo rojo como componente de sistemas de aislamiento de residuos t\u00f3xicos y peligrosos es una alternativa de reutilizaci\u00f3n del residuo posible.  adem\u00e1s, el trabajo profundiza en el  conocimiento del residuo  y sienta las bases para futuras investigaciones obre alternativas de reutilizaci\u00f3n del lodo rojo diferentes al simple almacenamiento.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Datos acad\u00e9micos de la tesis
