Es una enfermedad end\u00e9mica de la cuenca mediterr\u00e1nea, oriente medio y sudam\u00e9rica y la preValencia en estas zonas llega al 67%. Adem\u00e1s es una enfermedad en expansi\u00f3n ya que recientemente se han descrito casos en estados unidos y en reino unido, atribuibles al desplazamiento de los animales portadores y al cambio clim\u00e1tico con la consecuente expansi\u00f3n del mosquito. El inter\u00e9s en esta enfermedad se debe a su emergencia a nivel global, tanto para la salud humana como para el bienestar animal. el objectivo de esta tesis es el estudio de la base molecular de la resistencia y la susceptibilidad a la leishmaniosis visceral canina (cvl) a partir de dos aproximaciones distintas, el estudio del polimorfismo en 12 genes candidatos y el mhc de clase ii y el perfil inmunol\u00f3gico en el establecimiento de la infecci\u00f3n y en la posterior evoluci\u00f3n de la enfermedad. se han caracterizado 22 nuevos snps para el gen slc11a1, que est\u00e1 involucrado en la primera barrera de defensa contra los par\u00e1sitos, adem\u00e1s de tener m\u00faltiples efectos pleiotr\u00f3picos que actuan en la posterior respuesta inmunitaria. Un estudio caso-control formado por 164 perros de 19 razas, donde se han analizado 24 ppolimorfismos para este gen, nos ha permitido identificar 3  snps significativos: a4549g localizado en el intr\u00f3n 6, c4859t localizado en el ex\u00f3n 8 y c8542t localizado en el intr\u00f3n 13, corraborando la implicaci\u00f3n de este gen en la cvl. gracias a un trabajo en colaboraci\u00f3n con el \u00abcentre for integrated genomic medical research\u00bb (universidad de manchester) se ha caracterizado la regi\u00f3n mhc-ii y se han genotipado 97 snps en 11 genes candidatos relacionados con la respuesta inmune: il-1, il-2, il-4, il-6, il-10, il-12, mif, nos, tnf, slc11a1 y vdr.
