Un buen modelo se convierte en una excelente herramienta cient\u00edfica que requiere de la existencia y disposici\u00f3n de grandes vol\u00famenes de datos, adem\u00e1s de habilidad y considerable tiempo aplicado del investigador para integrar los conocimientos m\u00e1s relevantes y caracter\u00edsticos del fen\u00f3meno en estudio.  en el caso concreto de \u00e9sta tesis, los modelos de predicci\u00f3n desarrollados se enfocaron en la predicci\u00f3n contaminantes ambientales como el valor medio de part\u00edculas finas (pm2.5) presentes en el aire respirable con un tiempo de anticipaci\u00f3n de 8 horas y del ozono troposf\u00e9rico m\u00e1ximo (o3) con 24 horas de anticipaci\u00f3n.  se trabaj\u00f3 con un interesante conjunto de t\u00e9cnicas de predicci\u00f3n partiendo con herramientas de naturaleza param\u00e9trica tan sencillas como persistencia, modelaci\u00f3n lineal multivariante, as\u00ed como la t\u00e9cnica semi-param\u00e9trica: regresi\u00f3n ridge adem\u00e1s de herramientas de naturaleza no param\u00e9trica como redes neuronales artificiales (ann) como perceptron multicapa (mlp), perceptr\u00f3n multi capa cuadr\u00e1tica (smlp), funci\u00f3n de base radial (rbf) y redes elman, as\u00ed como m\u00e1quinas de vectores soporte (svm), siendo las t\u00e9cnicas no param\u00e9tricas las que generalizaron mejor los fen\u00f3menos
