Tan larga historia de los discursos, las pr\u00e1cticas y las regulaciones de la ense\u00f1anza a partir del medio o entorno, es explicada mediante la puesta en relaci\u00f3n de factores diversos. Entre otros, el alcance y funci\u00f3n social de la escuela, el tipo de conocimiento que en ella se imparte y los principios pedag\u00f3gicos, la infancia a la que se destina o las relaciones de poder en el microespacio de la escuela. Todo ello ha sido hist\u00f3ricamente escrutado al hilo que las culturas escolares han marcado, respondiendo a las demandas de los modos de educaci\u00f3n (tradicional elitista y tecnocr\u00e1tico de masas). Se desvela c\u00f3mo dichos periodos de la historia de la educaci\u00f3n (y sus ritmos de cambio) han sido el marco de pervivencias y de rupturas en la genealog\u00eda del c\u00f3digo pedag\u00f3gico del entorno.  se aborda en primer lugar la gestaci\u00f3n de la tradici\u00f3n discursiva sobre la que se erige la did\u00e1ctica del entorno as\u00ed como algunas de sus aplicaciones (la heimatkunde alemana o las lecciones de cosas). Se estudian las tentativas hispanas de trasladar a las aulas la did\u00e1ctica del entorno durante una larga transici\u00f3n entre los modos de educaci\u00f3n (1900-1970). finalmente, la indagaci\u00f3n se ocupa de la consolidaci\u00f3n del c\u00f3digo pedag\u00f3gico del entorno en la educaci\u00f3n tecnocr\u00e1tica de masas (1970-2000), abordando su institucionalizaci\u00f3n normativa y disciplinar, y en funci\u00f3n de nuevas condiciones econ\u00f3mica, sociales y culturales. En esta tesis se han usado fuentes primarias y secundarias de muy distinto tipo: documentaci\u00f3n legislativa, libros de texto y materiales de ense\u00f1anza, revistas pedag\u00f3gicas, encuestas y
