Est\u00e1 bien establecido que pacientes con cirrosis hep\u00e1tica tienen niveles plasm\u00e1ticos elevados de dimetilarginina asim\u00e9trica (adma). Una de las posibles causas podr\u00eda deberse a un fallo en su degradaci\u00f3n, es decir, una disminuci\u00f3n de la actividad de las ddahs. por otro lado, el no intrahep\u00e1tico est\u00e1 disminuido. el objetivo general del trabajo fue estudiar el papel del adma en las alteraciones vasculares que aparecen en los modelos de hipertensi\u00f3n portal y cirrosis. en la presente tesis doctoral se comprueba que el adma inhibe la relajaci\u00f3n dependiente de endotelio, mediada principalmente por no en la arteria il\u00edaca. Sin embargo, la arteria mesent\u00e9rica el adma no altera la relajaci\u00f3n dependiente de endotelio. Por tanto, el incremento de los niveles plasm\u00e1ticos de adma en la cirrosis no modificar\u00eda la relajaci\u00f3n dependiente del endotelio en el lecho espl\u00e1cnico y contribuir\u00eda a la excesiva vasodilataci\u00f3n. existen variaciones importantes en la expresi\u00f3n de las ddahs inducidas por la hipertensi\u00f3n portal y cirrosis. La elevada expresi\u00f3n de las ddahs a nivel espl\u00e1cnico en la hipertensi\u00f3n portal y en la cirrosis contribuir\u00eda a una mayor degradaci\u00f3n del adma que favorecer\u00eda la s\u00edntesis de no, que tendr\u00eda especial repercusi\u00f3n en la liberaci\u00f3n basal de no en el territorio espl\u00e1cnico. por ultimo, en el h\u00edgado cirr\u00f3tico hay un incremento en la expresi\u00f3n de ddah-2, que no se acompa\u00f1a con una mayor s\u00edntesis de no. Por otra parte, el d\u00e9ficit de no existente en el h\u00edgado cirr\u00f3tico podr\u00eda ser debido, al menos en parte, a los bajos niveles hep\u00e1ticos de
