La ciencia de materiales, junto con la qu\u00edmica, la f\u00edsica o la biolog\u00eda, ha estado \u00edntimamente legada a muchos de los avances en este campo, debido al gran control que ofrece sobre las propiedades finales de los materiales creados. Uno de los campos en los cuales se est\u00e1n empleando exitosamente t\u00e9cnicas de creaci\u00f3n de nanomateriales es el de los sensores de fibra \u00f3ptica. Estos sensores presentan propiedades que los hacen m\u00e1s apropiados que los electr\u00f3nicos convencionales para muchas aplicaciones. Las m\u00e1s representativas son la biocompatibilidad, inmunidad frente a fluidos electromagn\u00e9ticos, la ausencia de electricidad en la cabeza sensora y su reducido tama\u00f1o. Esta tesis presenta nuevos sensores de fibra \u00f3ptica basados en la deposici\u00f3n de recubrimientos nanoestructurados sobre las fibras. El estudio se ha dividido en dos grandes bloques. En el primer bloque se presentan los sensores basados en arquitecturas interferom\u00e9tricas. En un caso el interfer\u00f3metro se crea utilizando un segmento de fibra hueca entre dos fibras est\u00e1ndar y en el otro mediante una nanopel\u00edcula depositada en el extremo de una fibra est\u00e1ndar.
