Dicho modelo se basa en la reduccion controlada de la presion barometrica y por tanto de la presion parcial de oxigeno. Ademas de su simplicidad, la hha permite determinar por primera vez, si atmosferas bajas en oxigeno, suscitadas en actividades como el monta\u00f1ismo o la aviacion implican adaptaciones del sistema no\/nos que aminoren el da\u00f1o oxidativo provocado por el barotraumatismo. Este tipo de estudios tambien pueden ser de aplicacion a los transplantes de organos, ya que el sistema no esta fuertamente implicado en el da\u00f1o oxidativo que se genera por la
