Esta tesis doctoral se ha dedicado al estudio, mediante modelado estad\u00edstico no estacionario, de este tipo de sucesos. Para ello, se ha propuesto una metodolog\u00eda, aplicable a cualquier variable geof\u00edsica en general, que considera las nuevas aproximaciones en el estado del arte y que permite incorporar caracter\u00edsticas clim\u00e1ticas de diferente escala temporal en el tratamiento estad\u00edstico. la metodolog\u00eda desarrollada especifica aspectos como: las t\u00e9cnicas para la selecci\u00f3n de los valores extremos, las aproximaciones te\u00f3ricas de los principales modelos aplicables a variables geof\u00edsicas (modelo gev, modelo rlo, m\u00e9todo pareto, proceso de poisson&#8230;), Sus hip\u00f3tesis de partida, resoluci\u00f3n y diagn\u00f3stico y las posibles t\u00e9cnicas de ajuste a utilizar. De forma conjunta con estos aspectos te\u00f3ricos, se han revisado los procesos f\u00edsicos (forzamientos) que pueden influir tanto en la magnitud como en la ocurrencia de los eventos extremos a lo largo del tiempo y se propone la incorporaci\u00f3n en el modelo estad\u00edstico no estacionario de estos procesos. La introducci\u00f3n de la no estacionariedad en los modelos se soluciona considerando que los par\u00e1metros de la funci\u00f3n de distribuci\u00f3n te\u00f3rica pueden variar a lo largo del tiempo (se proponen aproximaciones param\u00e9tricas y semi-param\u00e9tricas). finalmente, se ha aplicado metodolog\u00eda a diversos estudios y diferentes variables (oleaje, viento, nivel del mar,
