Este autor, que destac\u00f3 como colaborador de la revista sur, fue un activo interlocutor de autores como borges o victoria ocampo y desempe\u00f1\u00f3 una intensa y valiosa labor de  traducci\u00f3n, -siendo el primer traductor de walter benjam\u00edn al castellanos-. el presente estudio parte de un aspecto nuclear de la obra de murena: el \u00edntimo di\u00e1logo entre literatura y pensamiento, que se manifiesta de un modo prioritario en su ensay\u00edstica. Desde esta perspectiva, la investigaci\u00f3n se hace eco de la especial imbricaci\u00f3n entre las dificultades suscitadas por el perfil intelectual dif\u00edcilmente clasificable de murena y aqu\u00e9llas propias de un g\u00e9nero como el ensayo, problem\u00e1tico desde un punto de vista te\u00f3rico por su car\u00e1cter h\u00edbrido, indeterminado, diverso. Tras una contextualizaci\u00f3n del pensamiento del autor, el trabajo se desarrolla en torno a tres ejes tem\u00e1ticos que se corresponden, a su vez, con tres etapas de su trayectoria: el pensamiento americanista inicial -fundamentado en una relectura de tradiciones nacionales anteriores-; la reflexi\u00f3n sobre la crisis de la modernidad -en un temprano di\u00e1logo con los autores de la escuela de frankfurt-, y la personal reflexi\u00f3n est\u00e9tica, caracter\u00edstica de su \u00faltima etapa. En cada una de estas l\u00edneas se establece adem\u00e1s un di\u00e1logo entre la escritura ensay\u00edstica de murena y el resto de los g\u00e9neros de su
