Estas celulas se caracterizan por ser no adherentes, de baja densidad, fenotipo nulo, wga+, y sensibles a la lme, caracteristicas que se corresponden con las de las denominadas celulas supresoras naturales (ns) descritas en otros modelos experimentales. La actividad ns de medula osea se inhibe en presencia de glucocorticoides (hidrocortisona, dexametasona). El efecto inhibidor de los gc se revierte en presencia de ifn-  y\/o il-2. Este dato que sugeria la importancia del ifn-  en la activacion de estas celulas, se vio apoyado por el hecho de que la neutralizacion de la produccion de ifn-  en el ensayo de supresion inhibia totalmente la actividad antiproliferativa de las celulas ns.  por otra parte, celulas con caracteristicas fenotipicas de ns suprimen la produccion in vitro de igm en respuesta a lps, pero no la de igg que incluso se encuentra aumentada. El incremento de igg observado se debe a un aumento en la produccion de igg2b, no afectandose otros isotipos.
