Con ello intenta recuperar para el debate acad\u00e9mico sobre la narrativa aurisecular a un autor que, tras miguel de cervantes y alonso jer\u00f3nimo de salas barbadillo, se erigi\u00f3 como referente de la prosa de ficci\u00f3n en la espa\u00f1a del xvii. El trabajo tiene, por ende, dos partes. En la primera se lleva a cabo un estudio que intenta revisar y discutir las perspectivas y juicios tanto sobre teresa de manzanares (1632), que ha gozado de cierta fortuna en a\u00f1os recientes, como sobre la gardu\u00f1a de sevilla (1642), la cual posee una tradici\u00f3n cr\u00edtica mucho m\u00e1s reducida. En la segunda, se presenta la edici\u00f3n anotada de ambas novelas. La labor ex\u00e9getica cumple de esta forma su doble prop\u00f3sito: brindar nuevas luces sobre ambas piezas narrativas y ofrecerlas adecuadamente editadas, con materiales que permitan posteriores asedios cr\u00edticos que enriquezcan el panorama de los estudios sobre la novela en el siglo de oro espa\u00f1ol. Se puede afirmar que teresa de manzanares y la gardu\u00f1a de sevilla representaron para su autor un ejercicio de experimentaci\u00f3n con resultados que a\u00fan ahora, dentro de su contexto, ofrecen gran inter\u00e9s, dentro del amplio corpus de ep\u00edgonos que se reconocen como parte del sistema literario llamado novela picaresca ambas obras se defienden por s\u00ed solas e
