Su transcripci\u00f3n se induce cuando las c\u00e9lulas epiteliales son forzadas a adquirir un fenotipo mesenquimal. Adem\u00e1s, la expresi\u00f3n ect\u00f3pica de snail1 en c\u00e9lulas epiteliales promueve resistencia a apoptosis. En este estudio demostramos que la resistencia a apoptosis, inducida por radiaci\u00f3n gamma, en estas c\u00e9lulas es causada por snail1 y est\u00e1 asociada a la inhibici\u00f3n transcripcional de la fosfatasa pten. La uni\u00f3n de snail1 al promotor de pten aumenta despu\u00e9s de la radiaci\u00f3n gamma, se correlaciona con la estabilizaci\u00f3n de la prote\u00edna snail1 y previene la asociaci\u00f3n de p53 al promotor de pten. Estos resultados explican el papel cr\u00edtico de snail1 en el control de la apoptosis y demuestran la regulaci\u00f3n de la fosfatasa pten por este represor transcripcional.  %&#038;\/En este trabajo tambi\u00e9n demostramos que la prote\u00edna snail1 modula su propia expresi\u00f3n en c\u00e9lulas tumorales de una manera bimodal. Snail1 se une a una caja e presente en su promotor y reprime su actividad. Sin embargo, en c\u00e9lulas tumorales con niveles bajos de e-cadherina, snail1 estimula su propio promotor. Este efecto activador prevalece sobre el efecto inhibitorio, no requiere de la caja e y es independiente del dominio snag en la prote\u00edna snail1. La estimulaci\u00f3n transcripcional del promotor snail1 por snail1 es dependiente de la activaci\u00f3n de nf?B y es modulada negativamente por la transfecci\u00f3n de e-cadherina. Estos resultados indican que la expresi\u00f3n del gen snail1 se puede regular por su propio producto y por los niveles de e-cadherina, y evidencian la existencia de un fino mecanismo de control en la
