Se ha evaluado una serie qu\u00edmica d e 11 diterpenos de tipo labdano, de los cuales, tan s\u00f3lo dos (deshidroisohispanolona y 8,9-deshidrohispanolona 15,16 -lactol), presentan actividad antiinflamatoria in vitro al ser capaces de inhibir la liberaci\u00f3n de citoquinas inflamatorias (tnf- alf a e il-6) y la sintesis de mediadores inflamatorios como \u00f3xido n\u00edtrico (no) y prostanglandina e2 (pge2). Los mecanismos a trav\u00e9s de los cuales ejercen estos efectos antiinflamatorios implican la inhibici\u00f3n de la activaci\u00f3n del factor de transcipci\u00f3n nf- kb, mediante el bloqueo de la actividad ikappa quinasa (ikk) y la consiguiente degradaci\u00f3n de las prote\u00ednas inhibidoras ikbs. Ambos diterpenos han mostrado tambi\u00e9n actividad antiinflamatoria en modelos experimentales in vivo. Por otra parte, se h a evaluado la actividad de dos diterpenos kauranos (foliol y linearol), inhibidores de la activaci\u00f3n del factor de transcripci\u00f3n nf-kb, en los procesos de apoptosis y fagocitosis. Ambos diterpenos ejercen un efecto proptector de la apoptosis inducida  por no, actuando en la v\u00eda mitocondrial de este proceso al inhibir la liberaci\u00f3n al citosol de citocromo c, la expresi\u00f3n de la prote\u00ednas pro-apopt\u00f3ticas (bax, p53) y la activaci\u00f3n de caspasas.
