Las m\u00e1s abundantes y m\u00e1s ampliamente distribuidas entre todos los seres vivos son la putrescina y la espermidina con dos y tres grupos amino, respectivamente. La espermidina se forma a partir de la putrescina por adici\u00f3n de un grupo aminopropilo. La espermina, con cuatro grupos amino y presente s\u00f3lo en eucariotas, se forma a partir de la espermidina por adici\u00f3n de un segundo grupo aminopropilo.  \tlas poliaminas han sido relacionadas con procesos fundamentales para la vida, como son la divisi\u00f3n, el crecimiento, la diferenciaci\u00f3n y la muerte celular, habi\u00e9ndose demostrado en todos los organismos en los que se han conseguido mutantes deficientes en su s\u00edntesis que las poliaminas son esenciales. En plantas se han encontrado m\u00faltiples correlaciones entre la variaci\u00f3n en la concentraci\u00f3n de las poliaminas y procesos tales como la germinaci\u00f3n, la embriog\u00e9nesis, la formaci\u00f3n de ra\u00edces, la iniciaci\u00f3n floral o el desarrollo de flores y frutos.  \tal inicio de esta tesis se public\u00f3 la identificaci\u00f3n de la primera putativa espermina sintasa en plantas (acl5), cuya p\u00e9rdida de funci\u00f3n da lugar a un defecto en la elongaci\u00f3n del tallo y alteraci\u00f3n del patr\u00f3n normal de los haces vasculares; sin embargo, nuestro an\u00e1lisis del mutante acl5 nos ha revelado que no hab\u00eda perdido la capacidad de sintetizar espermina. Nuestro rastreo del genoma de arabidopsis thaliana nos permiti\u00f3 identificar y caracterizar el gen spm, otra putativa espermina sintasa regulada por \u00e1cido absc\u00edsico. Los mutantes nulos para este gen no muestran diferencias fenot\u00edpicas respecto del silvestre pero el doble mutante spm\/acl5 nos ha permitido confirmar que no hay m\u00e1s genes responsables de la s\u00edntesis de espermina. No obstante, la sobreexpresi\u00f3n de spm en el mutante acl5 no ha sido capaz de aliviar su fenotipo, indicando que estos dos genes podr\u00edan no tene<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Datos
