La eleccion de este grupo funcional confiere al iluro la suficiente reactividad para hacer que esta reaccion, hasta la fecha poco estudiada, sea un metodo directo y eficaz de sintesis de estas 2,3-epoxiamidas. La aplicacion de esta reaccion a aldehidos quirales, permite la preparacion altamente diastereoselectiva de estas epoxiamidas, por la induccion asimetrica ejercida por el aldehido quiral. La reaccion de estos iluros con derivados de monosacaridos reductores, en forma furanosidica, proporciona una aproximacion, nueva, directa, con excelentes rendimientos y estereoselectividad, a c-glicosidos.  el estudio de la apertura del anillo de oxirano de estas epoxiamidas, ha mostrado una completa regioselectividad, abriendo nuevas rutas a la preparacion de nuevos aminoacidos quirales
