Consideraremos diversas modalidades  de imagen incluyendo im\u00e1genes de fotograf\u00eda convencional, im\u00e1genes m\u00e9dicas (resonancia magn\u00e9tica) y de reconocimiento remoto (hiperespectrales).  es de inter\u00e9s la definici\u00f3n de caracter\u00edsticas de alto nivel capaces de distinguir entre modalidades de imagen, sin ninguna informaci\u00f3n adicional.  adem\u00e1s del problema de la caracterizaci\u00f3n de las im\u00e1genes se plantea el problema de la b\u00fasqueda eficiente en grandes bases de datos. Los \u00edndices contra\u00eddos en base a las caracter\u00edsticas de las im\u00e1genes son, por definici\u00f3n, vectores de un espacio de alta dimensi\u00f3n a diferencia de las indexaciones convencionales, lo que plantea problemas de b\u00fasqueda espec\u00edficos.
