Pedf aumenta el n\u00famero de divisiones sim\u00e9tricas de la c\u00e9lula madre, dotando a la c\u00e9lula de una mayor capacidad auto-renovadora y manteniendo sus caracter\u00edsticas como c\u00e9lula madre intactas. Pedf contribuye in vivo a la tasa normal de neurog\u00e9nesis e in vitro aumenta el potencial neurog\u00e9nico de los cultivos. Adem\u00e1s se han determinado los mecanismos moleculares implicados en la auto-renovaci\u00f3n mediada por pedf. Pedf coopera con la v\u00eda de notch en la regulaci\u00f3n de la auto-renovaci\u00f3n y en la activaci\u00f3n del efector de la v\u00eda de notch hes1, que a su vez mantiene el estado de c\u00e9lula madre por inhibici\u00f3n de los genes proneurales mash1 y neurogenina2. Pedf regula la se\u00f1alizaci\u00f3n de notch modulando la distribuci\u00f3n del co-represor nuclear n-cor. Pedf induce la traslocaci\u00f3n citoplasm\u00e1tica de n-cor lo que permite la liberaci\u00f3n de cbf-1 y su uni\u00f3n al dominio intracelular de notch. La traslocaci\u00f3n citoplasm\u00e1tica de n-cor se produce por activaci\u00f3n de la v\u00eda de nfkb por pedf. Se ha demostrado que in vitro p65 y n-cor interacciona. De manera que pedf promueve divisiones sim\u00e9tricas auto-renovantes de la c\u00e9lula madre neural adulta por modulaci\u00f3n del represor n-cor y por aumento indirecto de la se\u00f1alizaci\u00f3n
