La primera de ellas est\u00e1 fundamentalmente enfocada al control del tama\u00f1o y la morfolog\u00eda de nanopart\u00edculas de oro, para lo cual se han empleado dos aproximaciones diferentes: crecimiento de coloides de peque\u00f1o tama\u00f1o, o reactividad de part\u00edculas m\u00e1s grandes. Asimismo, se ha llevado a cabo el recubrimiento de las part\u00edculas con capas de s\u00edlice de grosor controlado. En todos los casos, se han estudiado los cambios en las propiedades \u00f3pticas de las part\u00edculas inducidos por dichas modificaciones morfol\u00f3gicas. la segunda parte se ha dedicado a la caracterizaci\u00f3n \u00f3ptica de diversos coloides de oro mediante dos t\u00e9cnicas basadas en la dispersi\u00f3n de la luz por parte de los mismos: dispersi\u00f3n din\u00e1mica de luz (dynamic light scattering, o dls, en ingl\u00e9s) y microespectroscop\u00eda de campo oscuro (dfm, en ingl\u00e9s). Con ambas t\u00e9cnicas ha sido posible obtener, respectivamente, informaci\u00f3n acerca de la din\u00e1mica (difusi\u00f3n) y del comportamiento espectrosc\u00f3pico, a nivel de part\u00edculas individuales, de los coloides estudiados. de forma global, se espera que el contenido de la investigaci\u00f3n recogida en esta tesis represente un avance significativo en la comprensi\u00f3n de nanopart\u00edculas met\u00e1licas, tanto en lo relativo a los m\u00e9todos de s\u00edntesis, como a su caracterizaci\u00f3n \u00f3ptica. Los resultados presentados podr\u00edan tener importantes implificaciones en varios campos, tales como en gu\u00edas de ondas plasm\u00f3nicas, cristales fot\u00f3nicos o
