Entre los posibles estudios sobre este tema, el propuesto en esta tesis es particularmente innovador no solo por el posible uso de los lodos como fertilizantes en suelos forestales del pa\u00eds vasco sino tambi\u00e9n porque estudia el destino de formas nitrogenadas y metales pesados a lo largo de 4 a\u00f1os de experimentaci\u00f3n. Los experimentos llevados a cabo en este trabajo (comprenden ensayos de laboratorio y experimentos en parcelas de campo) tienen como principal objetivo el estudio del efecto de la aplicaci\u00f3n de lodo residual de e.D.A.R. En las propiedades qu\u00edmicas del suelo y de las aguas percolantes (con especial atenci\u00f3n al comportamiento de los metales pesados), as\u00ed como sus efectos en el crecimiento de plantaciones forestales, concretamente de pinus radiata d. Don. Tras los resultados obtenidos, se considera totalmente desaconsejable la adici\u00f3n de dosis elevadas de estos lodos (e.G., 60 mg ha-1) incluso en el caso de que \u00e9stos cumplieran la normativa vigente en cuanto a los niveles de metales pesados. Ello se justifica por el hecho de que la alcalinidad del sistema (lodos + suelos) no es capaz de neutralizar la acidez generada por la oxidaci\u00f3n de los compuestos reducidos presentes en el residuo. Las aplicaciones de dosis de lodos m\u00e1s de tres veces menores (17 mg ha-1) dieron lugar a similares producciones de biomasa forestal, al tiempo que la acidificaci\u00f3n del suelo y el contenido en metales pesados se redujeron considerablemente. A\u00fan as\u00ed, el uso de otros tipos de lodo de depuradora de aguas residuales  con una mayor capacidad de neutralizaci\u00f3n de \u00e1cidos y una mayor estabilidad de la fracci\u00f3n
